Beef fest: 9 students booked for attacking IIT Madras scholar
Nine students have been charged for allegedly beating up a PhD scholar from the Indian Institute of Technology- Madras, for organising a 'Beef Fest' on the campus.
The accused were booked under IPC 147- Punishment for rioting, 341-Punishment for wrongful restraint,323- Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt and 506(1) - criminal intimidation, ANI reported.
According to reports, Sooraj R, PhD scholar in Aerospace department, was allegedly beaten up by right-wing students while he was having food at the hostel mess. His right eye is seriously wounded and he was taken to a hospital nearby.

The beef festival was held at the IIT Madras campus to protest against the ban on sale of cattle for slaughtering. The fest took place on Sunday where scores of students were seen seated on the lawns of the campus eating beef.
