Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh has said pornography is the "main cause" for rapes in the state and has written to the Centre on Monday to ban access to all porn sites.

"We think the reason for rising number of child rape and molestation cases is porn. We are contemplating banning porn in Madhya Pradesh, will approach Centre in the matter," Singh said as quoted by ANI.

He also said that his ministry has identified 25 such websites and has written to the Union Home Ministry, seeking a ban on these sites. Singh's comments came amidst massive protests across the country over a spate of rape cases, many of them against children as young as a few months.

"The Indore incident has left me distressed. How can someone do something so terrible to a little girl? The society needs to peep within themselves. The administration has taken quick action and arrested the accused. We will ensure that he gets severe punishment without delay," he tweeted.

Earlier last week, Union Minister Santosh Gangwar stoked up a controversy as he said that people should not make a fuss over one or two rape incidents. Calling rape incidents as unfortunate, he asserted that such cases cannot be prevented sometimes.

These remarks come at the backdrop of concern over the horrific rape and murder of a 4-month-old baby girl in Indore. Also, on Monday, a model took to Twitter to share her ordeal as she was molested on the streets of Indore, when two boys pulled her skirt, while she was riding her scooter.
