All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has said that he wants to meet Army Chief General Bipin Rawat and make him "aware of the facts". Ajmal's remark came days after General Rawat linked AIUDF's growth to the immigration of Bangladesh in the Northeast.

"I will visit him and drink tea with him and eat mithai too with him, despite being a diabetic, and apprise him of the facts about the AIUDF. I will, as we don't have any guilt about who we are and what we do. He must be made aware of the facts," Ajmal was quoted as saying in an India Express report.

Ajmal and some colleagues met Home Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday with a two-page memorandum, and asked for a "clarification" of the statement of the Army chief and that the "confusion" created by it be dispelled.

On February 22, Ajmal, a Lok Sabha MP, had said the Army Chief was misinformed and misguided. Ajmal had said that parties like AIUDF and AAP have grown because of the misgovernance of big parties.

The controversy started after General Rawat on February 21 spoke of proxy warfare in the Northeast by Pakistan with help from China and the "planned" influx of Bangladeshi immigrants. He also referred to Ajmal's AIDUF in connection with reports of an increase in Muslim population in several districts of Assam.

"I think the government is looking at the Northeast with correct perspective...With development will come control of the people residing in this area. I don't think now you can change the population dynamics of this region... there is a party called AIUDF. It has grown at a faster rate than the BJP has over the years. The AIUDF is moving at a faster pace in the state of Assam," General Rawat had said.

The AIUDF, which was formed in 2005 with an aim to champion the cause of Muslim community, currently has three MPs in the Lok Sabha and 13 legislators in the state assembly.
