The Supreme Court is set to pronounce its verdict on the Central Bureau of Investigation's appeal against dropping of charges conspiracy charges against senior BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and others in the Babri Masjid demolition case on Wednesday.

The CBI had charged the suspects with conspiracy but they were cleared by a trial court. The central agency then challenged the verdict in the apex court.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani

Of the two cases of Babri Masjid demolition, one is against Advani and the other is against the BJP leaders who were on the dais at Ram Katha Kunj in Ayodhya around 200 metres from the mosque site, where many provocative speeches were allegedly made.

The SC had on March 23 asked Advani, Joshi and other accused in the 1992 Babri Mosque demolition case to give their written submissions and adjourned the matter for two weeks.

L K Advani and others could be sentenced to five years in jail if conspiracy charges in the Babri Masjid demolition case is proven. The Supreme Court had earlier pointed out that a 25 year pendency in this case was 'evasion of justice,' while stating that it would direct the Lucknow court to complete the trial in two years while ordering a day to day hearing.
