Bengaluru, July 19: A cab driver of a private company, while on his way back home was allegedly robbed at Ramamurthy Nagar late on Monday night. However, when the driver, Muniraju approached police officials, they refused to file a complaint casting aspersions on the merits of his statements.

The motorcycle borne thieves stole Rs 10,000 cash from his pocket and a mobile phone. Muniraju after losing all his money approached bystanders near Hoaramavu seeking help to reach home. His house is located at K Channasandra.

Robbery

After being robbed, Muniraju approached a bystander who took him to the police station. Harsha Padyana, who assisted Muniraju speaking to OneIndia said, "Initially I did not believe him as in Bengaluru people create many fake situations to earn money."

Muniraju had arrived in Bengaluru from Kuppam, Chittoor district of Andra Pradesh by bus. He was carrying cash of Rs 10,000 that he borrowed from his elder sister. He had borrowed the money to pay the rent of his house as he was short of cash.

Muniraju mocked by cops!

Harsha further said that Muniraju was weeping like a lost kid while narrating the incident and this led him to believe his story. He asked for some money so that he could go home. "I took him to Ramamurthy Nagar police station at around 11.45 pm. Shockingly the cops instead of filing his complaint mocked at him," Harsha said.

"The cops used foul words. They called Muniraju Pedda, Murkha (fool) and told him 'you visited a transgender hooker, tell us the truth.' Surprised at the reaction, Muniraju pleaded to the cops to recover his money from the robbers and insisted his story was true," Harsha added.

However, the cops later seemed convinced and told Muniraju to come on Tuesday at 10am. To top it all, a constable on duty advised Muniraju to forget about the cash saying it cannot be traced at all.

Thieves attacked Muniraju before stealing

Harsha said Muniraju was standing at the service road that is adjacent to the Ramamurthy Nagar flyover. The service road is to the left side on the route from Ramamurthy Nagar signal - Tin Factory.

At around 11.20pm three men riding a Bajaj Pulsar bike stopped in front of Muniraju and asked his mobile phone on the pretext of calling. All three conversed in Tamil among themselves.

As soon he handed over the phone, one person held Muniraju's neck from behind, while another held his hands. The third man showered blows after blows to Muniraju's face and then walked away with cash and mobile, Harsha said.

It's a petty issue: Cop

A cop working on night duty at the Ramamurthy Nagar Police station told OneIndia that it was a petty issue. Initially, a cop on the other end of the phone said there was no theft reported in the jurisdiction.

On saying OneIndia received a phone call at 1.30am from a person who accompanied Muniraju to the police station, the cops said "Yes, a guy came with a story. It is a petty issue. We can't believe his story. We have called him back at 10am on Tuesday. I don't think he will come back."
