Many banks remained close while some were non-operational on Tuesday morning. Services like deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearances took a massive hit while ATMs ran dry. Speaking to OneIndia over inconvenience to citizens, Ajay Manjrakar, President of a bank employee union said, "ATMs will dispense cash as long as the money stocked on Monday will last. While private agencies are responsible for replenishing cash supply to ATMs, no treasuries will supply cash. Most ATMs may run out of cash since bank employees will be protesting,"

Their demands include declaring wilful defaulters as criminals. Bank employees have also demanded that compensation be paid to families of those who lost their lives during the demonetisation phase. They are also opposing the government's move to merge nationalised banks and recovery of NPS.
