Both India and China confirmed that the disengagement of troops at Doklam had begun. While this is a signal that the crisis has ended, the million dollar question is whether China has stopped construction work, the main reason why the standoff began.

China had come in with its bulldozers and began constructing a road which triggered the crisis in the first place. While the Chinese foreign ministry does not make any mention about the construction work, Indian officials confirmed to OneIndia that the work has stopped and the bulldozers have moved away.

This is a major victory for India which not only stood its ground, but also ensured that China stopped the construction work which both India and Bhutan termed illegal.

The standoff between India and China, one of the worst in decades began in June. China began constructing a road on the Doklam plateau which was objected to by Bhutan. India rushed to the rescue of Bhutan and positioned its troops thus honouring the Friendship Treaty.

On Monday India's Foreign Ministry said, "On this basis, expeditious disengagement of border personnel at the face-off site at Doklam has been agreed to and is on-going. The disengagement was near completion for both countries, the statement also read.

China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said "At 1430 or so on August 28, India withdrew its personnel and equipment to the Indian side of the border line." She also said that China would make necessary adjustments and deployments according to the changes."
