In Assam's II phase, candidate with lowest assets is worth Rs 282

New Delhi, April 7: The second phase of the Assam Assembly elections will see 125 crorepati candidates battling for a win.

Out of the 523 analysed by the Association for Democratic Reforms and the Assam Election Watch, 125 are crorepati candidates and the richest candidate is worth Rs 54 crore. The candidates with the lowest assets is worth Rs 282.

Assam: Crorepati Candidates in 2nd phase

The Congress has fielded the highest number of crorepati candidates followed by the BJP and the AIUDF. The average assets of the candidates contesting the second phase of the polls is Rs 1.26 crore.

Richest candidates:

Badruddin Ajmal contesting from the Salmara South constituency on a AIUDF ticket is the richest candidate with assets worth Rs 54,82, 12,335. HIs movable properties are worth Rs 10,81,45,406. The immovable assets are valued at Rs 44,00,66,929.

Second on the list of the richest candidates is Itesh Bordoloi an independent candidate contesting from the Bongaigaon constituency. With movable assets and immovable assets valued at Rs 25,34,93,031 and Rs 25,08,64,00 his total worth is Rs 50,43,57,031.

The third richest candidate is Narayan Deka of the BJP. Contesting from the Barkhetry constituency, he is worth Rs 17,23,17,302. His movable assets are valued at Rs 3,43,52,302 and immovable assets are worth Rs 13,79,65,000.

Detailed analysis:

Crorepati Candidates: Out of the 523 candidates analysed, 125 (24%) are crorepatis.

Party wise Crorepati Candidates: 30 (53%) out of 57 fielded by INC, 19 (54%) out of 35 candidates from BJP, 9 (47%) out of 19 candidates from Asom Gana Parishad, 12 (26%) out of 47 candidates fielded by AIUDF, 6 (60%) out of 10 candidates of Bodoland Peoples Front and 39 (18%) out of 216 Independent candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

Average assets: The average of assets per candidate contesting in Second Phase of the Assam Assembly Elections is Rs 1.26 Crores.

Party wise average assets: Among major parties, the average assets per candidate for 57 INC candidates is Rs 2.64 Crores, 35 BJP candidates have average assets of Rs 2.46 Crores, 47 AIUDF candidates have average assets worth Rs 2.44 Crores, 11 SUCI(C) candidates hae average assets worth Rs 26.43 Lakhs, 19 Asom Gana Parishad candidates have average assets worth Rs 1.37 Crores, average assets of 9 CPI(M) candidates are Rs 82.64 Lakhs, 5 CPI candidates have average assets of Rs 10.88 Lakhs and 216 Independent candidates have average assets of Rs. 96.94 Lakhs.

The low assets candidates: Naba Kumar an independent candidate constesting the Jalukbari seat is worth Rs 282. He is followed by Munindra Doley of the SUCI(C) with assets worth Rs 2,000. Abdul Wahab of the Bharatiya Rashtrwadi Party is worth Rs 2,500.
