New Delhi, Mar 2: In what could be termed as a U-turn, Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki had to delete his tweet, in which he had welcomed the Naga peace accord, signed between NSCM-IM and Government of India.

Sonia Gandhi snubbed Nabam Tuki?

Tuki had to reportedly delete the tweet after party chief Sonia Gandhi expressed her displeasure over Naga Peace accord by Modi government.

Tuki on Aug, 5 had written on social networking site Twitter, "welcomed the initiative of the Centre to bring a peaceful solution to the prolonged Naga political issue."

Earlier on Thursday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi slammed the Centre over the same accord accusing it of not taking chief ministers of north eastern states into confidence. Sonia even termed the Modi dispensation as 'arrogant' which is suppressing the voice of the three states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Talking to reporters in Parliament complex, the Sonia said when she called her party's chief ministers in the three states, who are directly affected by the Naga accord, she found that they were "totally blank" on the issue.

Nabam Tuki deletes his tweet 'welcoming' Naga peace accord

"Nobody has even bothered to brief them, perhaps not in detail, but in a wide sense. After all, our chief ministers are directly affected, be it Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh or Assam. So, what do I take from this? From this I take that this government is arrogant."

Did Sonia's snub forced Tuki to delete his tweet?

It seems Sonia's snub has forced the Arunachal Pradesh CM to retract from his previous statement and hence delete his tweet. The Chief Minister hasn't yet come up with a justification for his action but social media is already criticising his move.

"We hope the peace accord with the NSCN(IM) will bring permanent and lasting solution to the protracted Naga political issue and peace will prevail in the entire northeastern region," Tuki was earlier quoted as saying.

Congress CMs did not attend meeting called by PM

Moreover, as per a report published in NitiCentral, Prime Minister Modi had called a meeting with the Chief Ministers of Northeast on July 15. However, only three of eight chief ministers showed up for the meeting. The other chief ministers, all from Congress-ruled states, skipped the meet.

This is how Congress leadership defended its decision

"Since there was no meeting ground between the views of the Congress and the government, there was no use of the party chief ministers attending the meet," Congress spokesperson RPN Singh said.

Tuki not alone to welcome Naga peace accord

The accord was signed following nearly two decades of peace talks. Not only Tuki even Congress Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of Assam had also welcomed the accord.
