Arrested ISI handler planned kidnaping to get money for weapons

New Delhi, Dec 3: Kafaitullah Khan, the suspected Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agent, who was arrested along with a BSF personnel on the charge of spying, planned to kidnap a high value target and use ransom money to get gadgets for espionage.

He wanted to collect funds (Maal-e-Ghanimat or war booty) to support anti-India activities, reported the Times of India citing sources.

Maal-e-Ghanimat is a preferred way to raise funds for jihad.

"The abduction plan had emerged during Khan's interrogation but the details were still being verified," said, joint commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav.

According to sources, he was contacted by an acquaintance to plan out abduction of a businessman because of personal enmity. Apart from ransom, he was offered additional Rs. 3 lakh for arranging logistics. The only condition was that the target should not die at any cost.

All arrangements were finalised for the kidnaping and plan was to be executed on Khan's return from Bhopal.

The sources also claimed that Khan was asked to look for possible recruits at the religious congregation, Iztima in Bhopal. The abduction could not be materialised as he was arrested by a team led by ACP KPS Malhotra of the crime branch of Delhi Police at New Delhi station.
