Army not collecting toll in West Bengal: Maj Gen Sunil Yadav
There has been an uproar in Parliament while Mamata Banerjee has locked herself up alleging that the army is being deployed in West Bengal and this suggests that there is a coup in the making.
The army is not collecting toll at counters in West Bengal. It is exercise being carried out for operational purposes, Major General Sunil Yadav, the general officer in command in the area said.

Major General Sunil Yadav, the general officer in Command in the area said that the army exercise was being carried out for operational purposes. He also said that the allegations of army personnel collecting money at toll counters were baseless and denied any such instance.

Addressing the press from Kolkata he added, "Army formations in Eastern command carry out routine annual data collection exercises. These exercises are to check availability of load carriers at all major entry points in various states and all of this in coordination with local police authorities. Over 80 such collection data points established in entire region, personnel of army consisting of 5-6 at each point are unarmed."

Reiterating that this was only routine, Maj Gen Yadav said that similar exercises have been carried out in Jharkhand, UP and Bihar from 26th September to 1st October this year.
