Are you listening, candidates? First-time voters want job, development

This election season, youngsters are voting for job and development.

Chandigarh, Feb 4: As polling kick-started in Punjab and Goa on Saturday, young and enthusiastic voters came out in large numbers to elect their leaders. The youngsters, several of whom are first-time voters, are clear about their expectations from the newly-elected candidates.

The youth of the country wants job and development for better future. Talking to ANI, a first-time voter at a polling booth in Lambi, Punjab, said, "No matter whose government comes to power, the youth wants employment."

Lambi is a high-profile constituency in the state. Congress' Amarinder Singh and Shiromani Akali Dal's Parkash Singh Badal are contesting the elections from Lambi. The incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Badal won this seat by securing 67,999 votes in the last assembly elections in 2012.

Similarly, Sneha Rebello, a college-goer from Panaji, Goa, said that Goans want development in the state.

"We, the youngsters, want job security. We want our state to be progressive. We want better roads, educational institutions and industries," added Sneha.

In Goa, 251 candidates are in the fray for the 40-member assembly, while in Punjab 1,145 candidates are in fray for the 117-member assembly. The contest in both Punjab and Goa revolves around the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party.
