Another embarrassment for Haryana! Female sex ratio touches all time low in this Kurukshetra village
Kurukshetra, Mar 18: At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is showing keen interest in improving the male-female ratio in the country, child sex ratio remains a matter of concern in Haryana's Kurukshetra.
As per a report published in DNA, the sex ratio in Kurukshetra's Haripur village, is a dismal 250 girls per 1,000 boys.
The report quoted the village sarpanch as saying, "It is true that our village is still backward when it comes to sex ratio. The current sex ratio is a matter of deep concern and worries us."

Holding ultrasound centres responsible, the sarpanch added that the people are at fault. "We conduct awareness camps on a regular basis, but the way the people think has not changed," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose the state of Haryana, that owns the dubious distinction of worst male-female ratio among all states, to start his ambitious Beti Bachao programme but that too seems hasn't helped a lot.
This is not only a concern for the Centre but also an embarrassment to the Manohar Lal Khattar government in the state.
As per a previous report, according to the 2011 Census, the number of females per 1000 males in Haryana in 2011 stood at 879 followed by Jammu and Kashmir (889 female) and Punjab (895 females).
The other two worst-performing states in terms of skewed sex ratio are Uttar Pradesh (912 females) and Bihar (918 females).
Five top performing states in terms of sex ratio were Kerala (1,084 females), Tamil Nadu (996), Andhra Pradesh (993), Chhattisgarh (991), Odisha (979).
The sex ratio of population in the country in 2011 stands at 943 female against 1000 males, which is 10 per cent more than the last census when the number female per thousand male stood at 933.
Child population in the age of 0 to 6 years has seen an increase of 0.4% to 164.5 million in 2011 from 163.8 million in 2001.
The child population (0-6) is almost stationary. In 17 states and UTs, the child population has declined in 2011 compared to 2001.
