Chennai, July 30: Authorities of Anna University rubbished rumours that a holiday was declared at the institution over the deteriorating health conditions of Muthuvel Karunanidhi, Tamil Nadu's former chief minister who had taken oath as many as five times.

On Sunday, July 29, the university registrar issued a statement saying that the institution will not be closed on Monday, July 30, after the rumour started spreading in the wake of political leaders' gathering at the Kauvery Hospital here where the nonagenarian leader is admitted.

The rumour about Anna University - one of the largest university in the state - started spreading amid the anxiety over Karunanidhi's health and the university officials were quickly on their toes to negate it.

Meanwhile, medical officials at Kauvery Hospital issued a health bulletin at 9.50 pm on Sunday to say that the ailing leader's vital signs were "normalising" after a "transient setback" and that he was breathing without support.

DMK leaders asked the party workers and supporters to stay calm and sought cooperation to allow the hospital staff members to function without any disturbance.
