Andhra Pradesh embarrassment: Urdu university named after Pak scholar
Hyderabad, Mar 31: In a major goof up, a proposed Urdu university to be set up in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh has been named after a Pakistani scholar Abdul Haq.
This blunder has come as huge embarrassment to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the university was actually supposed to be named after renowned philanthropist, Dr. M. Abdul Haq who founded Osmania College in Kurnool in 1947.
The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly passed the 'Moulvi Abdul Haq Urdu University Bill-2016' in the House on Wednesday.
Abdul Haq, known as Father of Urdu, born on November 16, 1872 in Hapur, Meerut migrated to Pakistan in 1947 during partition.
The proposed university is scheduled to hold classes from June. An amendment will now have to be passed to rename the university.
