Mysuru, Jan 07: It was a comedy of errors at the valedictory of the 103rd Indian Science Congress (103ISC).

Karnataka Minister for Higher Education Minister T B Jayachandra remembered former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam's contribution to science and technology. But, he addressed him as Alam!

An evening of laughter at Science Congress valedictory

The general president-elect of the Indian Science Congress Association Prof Narayana Rao was an excited man as the 104th ISC will be hosted in Chennai. But, he addressed Deve Gowda as Prime Minister of India.

While Deve Gowda spoke, he remembered Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Dr Modi!

If these bloopers were not enough, then there were other interesting incidents on offer as well for the invitees seated inside the historic Crawford Hall of University of Mysore.

Deve Gowda was seen walking towards the podium for his speech and realised immediately that his turn hadn't arrived.

During the photography sessions with award winners, on many occasions the recipients were seen scrambling for their certificates. With the dignitaries unable to keep pace with the MC (master of ceremony), wrong certificates were issued to the winners.

Two male members of the renowned Kannada music director Hamsa Lekha had a tough time in getting on the stage for the theme song. The security guards did not allow the two singers to join the rest of the team members. They were seen pleading and finally managed to run to the stage gasping.

Karnataka Governor in his elements

But, the man of the moment was Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, who peppered his speech with many light anecdotes.

Science Congress:An evening of laughter

Giving credit to girls for being hardworking, Vala said: "If a boy sits and studied near the window he would never come up in his life."

Looking at the girl students, the Governor wondered why they should apply lipsticks and get their eyebrows done while going to colleges. "No need of a fashion show and just go attend your classes," he said.

He said today's youngsters scored 95 per cent and above all the time, but Vala said his percentages put together for three years wouldn't match up to that much.

The audiences were in splits with Vala's extempore speech and it was officially curtains down for 103ISC.
