A friend in need: Australian soldier doing 14,000 push-ups to help Indian family

, Nov 15: No, the world hasn't lost all its goodness. Amid all the busyness, many people find time for others and make an effort to help those in need. Here is what an Australian army brigadier is doing for a late friend's family in India.

Australian army's Brigadier Bill Sowry, then a Major, became friends with Major Mohit Whig during his training at the Staff College in India 20 years ago, said a NDTV report. Years later, Major Whig was killed while he was posted in Kashmir, leaving behind two sons and his wife.

Brigadier Sowry, now settled in London, dug out Major Whig's family's contacts through Facebook and sent them a message. When he came to know that Whig's younger son Fateh had a condition called Spina Bifida, he decided to help - And he found out an innovative idea to raise money.

In a challenge 'Push Ups For Fateh or PUFF ', Sowry is raising funds for Fateh's treatment in Australia, where the boy could get better specialist, rehabilitative care.

His target is 25,000 pounds and for that, Sowry decided to do push-ups every day. He will do four times the number of push-ups there are kilometres covered in the Tour De France race ! The race track is over 3500 kilometers. That makes around 14,000 pushups in three weeks. The event 'PUFF' is held in London.

The brigadier has already raised over 10,000 pounds. The Major's family is overwhelmed by Sowry's gesture. The Major's daughter even created and edited a video of Sowry doing the pushup.
