Amitabh Bachchan and family refuse to accept Rs 50,000 monthly pension from UP Govt; Here's why

Mumbai, Oct 22: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his family members refused to accept Rs 50,000 pension from Uttar Pradesh government.

While turning down the offer made by Akkhilesh Yadav-led government, the Bachchans said that they want the state government to donate the money to "any noble charitable scheme or cause that benefits the poor and the needy".

Earlier Uttar Pradesh government declared that Amitabh Bachchan, his wife Jaya Bachchan and their son Abhishek Bachchan would receive Rs 50,000 every month.

The Bachchans were declared the beneficiaries of the state government's latest pension scheme, which grants Rs 50,000 per month for life, to people who have been awarded the state's Yash Bharti Samman.

However, the Bachchans, who are considered to be first family of Bollywood, refused to accept the offer.

Issuing an official statement, Amitabh Bachchan said, "I respect the UP government's honour of the Yash Bharti Award to members of my family, and their decision as per reports in the press, for providing pension of Rs 50,000 per month to each recipient, I am requesting the UP government, with all humility, to redirect the entire amount designated for my family towards any noble charitable scheme or cause that benefits the poor and the needy."

Continuing his statement, the 73-year-old actor also added, "I shall be writing to the Chief Minister in this regard, in a separate communication."
