New Delhi, July 23: A day after a villager, Rakbar Khan was lynched by a mob in Alwar in Rajasthan, BJP MLA Raja Singh has stirred a fresh controversy by saying that such lynchings will not stop till cow slaughtering ends and called for a law against it.

Speaking to ANI, Singh said,''Recently, a cow smuggler got killed, but why this killing happened does anyone know? That guy Rakbar Khan was already booked under criminal charges of cow smuggling I came to know through media (sic).''

Clarifying on the statement, Singh said,''I didn't say anything wrong in my video, these lynching cases won't stop until cow slaughtering stops. there should be a law against it. According to media, the person who died was a cow trafficker.''

His remarks comes on the backdrop of comments by another BJP lawmaker Arjun Ram Meghwal, who linked lynching to the 'rising popularity' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rakbar Khan was lynched by a mob of cow protectors who accused him of smuggling cows on Saturday in Rajasthan's Alwar. Several eyewitnesses have alleged inaction on part of the police as the reason behind Khan's death.

Meanwhile, authorities are investigating whether there was negligence and manhandling of Khan that eventually led to his death. According to various reports, Rakbar was allegedly beaten up by the cops before taking to the hospital. Some reports also claim that the police took three hours to take the victim to the hospital.
