Allow Ram Navami prayers, HC directs TMC run municipality
All arrangments should be made to conduct Ram Navami, the high court has said.
In a major boost for several devotees in Kolkata, the high court has directed the municipal authorities to grant permission to perform Ram Navami puja on Wednesday. A petition was moved by the Lake Town Ram Navami Puja Committee stating that the South Dum Dum municipality had not granted permission to conduct the puja.
It was alleged that an application seeking permission was filed on March 22, but there was no response. It was also submitted to the Kolkata high court that despite a reminder there was no response.
The court directed the TMC-run municipality to grant permission for the conduct of the puja and also make necessary arrangements in this regard. "The police and the fire brigade must make sure all arrangements are in place for the prayers," the court directed. The municipal body had sought for a stay of the application during the course of the arguments. However, the court refused to stay the same and directed that the Ram Navami Puja can be conducted.
