In 2012 Debbarma had been pushed back by Bangladesh and had been arrested at the Dawki border in Meghalaya. He was then brought back to Tripura. In 2015, he had been granted bail.

He had plans to form a new insurgent outfit with surrendered insurgents of All Tripura Tiger Force and National Liberation Front of Tripura, stated Krishnendu Chakraborty, Superintendent of Police, Khowai.

Off later Debbarma had been demanding that the Government rehabilitate the insurgents who had surrendered. He had even threatened to launch an agitation if the Government failed to live up to their commitment assured to the militants at the time of surrender.

Debbarma had been organizing meetings in different parts of the state over this issue. In one such meeting in Dushki under Teliamura police station in West Tripura on November 9, Debbarma had challenged the merger of the former princely state of Tripura in the Indian Union in 1949, stated the SP.

Immediately, sedition charges had been slapped on him.
