Complying with the Supreme Court order, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav have vacated their official residences in Lucknow on Thursday.

The father-son duo of the Samajwadi Party had earlier sought a time period of two years from the state government to move out of their official residence as they needed time to look for suitable accommodation.

The Supreme Court had previously ordered that all government bungalows held by former CMs of UP be vacated.

Following the apex court order, the Uttar Pradesh government had recently sent notices to the politicians to vacate the official accommodation which was allocated to them when they were serving their tenure as the chief ministers of the state.

Former chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati vacated one of the government bungalows and retained the second official house, which, according to the party, is now a memorial of Kanshi Ram.

Mayawati vacated 6, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, which was allotted to her when she became the chief minister. Another bungalow at 13A, mall Avenue, according to the BSP has been made into a memorial to the party founder Kashi Ram.

The BSP had earlier indicated that the bungalow at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg would be vacated by the party supremo if a notice was issued.

The other former CMs who also have to vacate government bungalows allotted to them are Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh and ND Tiwari.
