To deter the practice of triple talaq, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) is all set to make it necessary for all Muslim men to pledge against the controversial Islamic practice of triple talaq and commit in the nikahnama (Islamic marriage contract) and that he will not give instant triple talaq.

AIMPLB to modify nikahnama model

The board will hold its 26th plenary meeting of general and executive members on February 9 and 10 in Hyderabad's Owaisi hospital. At the meeting, the board is expected to release a "model nikahnama" which will require the bridegroom to undertake that he will not divorce his wife through triple talaq.

The triple talaq bill and the Babri Masjid case, which is coming up for hearing in the Supreme Court from February 8, top the agenda of the crucial meeting to be presided over by AIMPLB chief Moulana Rabey Hasani Nadvi.

The development comes at a time when the government is making a strong pitch for the passage of triple talaq bill.

The AIMPLB has maintained that it against the practice of triple talaq, but it has opposed the proposed legislation saying it is an interference in Muslim personal law.
