The bread packets were meant to be served to patients, admitted in the hospital.

If the bread packet containing the rat was left unnoticed, then it could have led to allergy, fever, diarrhoea, and even cause blood infection and meningitis, according to doctors.

The incident happened on July 27, 2015. AIIMS sent a showcause notice to the bread manufacturers on Sept 9 and on Sept 24, it issued a notice barring Bonn Nutrients for three years.
