AIADMK merged: Next stop NDA, BJP set to get majority in Rajya Sabha
Since the time Sasikala was sent to jail by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case, the BJP took keen interest in the state and the party as well.
The AIADMK painted a pretty picture with O Panneerselvam and E Palanisami smiling with each other and behaving like long lost brothers. Although both leaders met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the NEET 2017 pretext, merger talks were always top on the agenda.
For the BJP, the merger was an important one. The party wanted to ensure that the two factions came together and left Sasikala and company out. More importantly the BJP was in no mood for an election in Tamil Nadu. We want to avoid an election at any cost in TN, a top BJP source informed OneIndia.
The question is what is next on the cards? Will the united AIADMK join the NDA next? There is a good possibility that it may happen and it would improve the NDA's strength in the Rajya Sabha.
The AIADMK has 50 members in Parliament- 37 in Lok Sabha and 13 in the Rajya Sabha. With the JD(U) joining the NDA and the the coalition getting support from the AIADMK, BJD, TRS and YSRCP, the strength is up to 121 now. The Rajya Sabha has 245 members and the majority mark is 123.
Since the time Sasikala was sent to jail by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case, the BJP took keen interest in the state and the party as well. At no cost did the BJP want the OPS and EPS camps warring with each other. The BJP invited both leaders for the swearing in of Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice President of India. This was an indicator from the BJP it wanted to keep both camps happy.
