After BJYM leader's threat, Mamata prays to God to forgive him
I pray to God to forgive them, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday. She was referring to a controversial remark made by a BJP youth wing leader who placed a bounty of Rs 11 lakh on her accusing the West Bengal government of bias towards Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanthi.
The issue had become a subject matter of debate in the Parliament and the centre gave her a free hand to take legal action against the youth leader Yogesh Varshney.
I am regularly targeted with offensive words. But, the more they say such things, the more we will progress, she said at a rally in Domkal. "I participate in Durga Puja. I also participate in Eid, I go to church. Who are you to stop me?"
The issue had snowballed into a major controversy. After the statement made by Varshney, a Muslim cleric had issued a counter offer. He said he would offer Rs 22 lakh for the one who got him the BJP youth wing leader's head.
