After AAP, now Modi govt: Centre proposes to increase MPs salaries to Rs 2.8 lakh per month

New Delhi, Dec 24: There is good news in the offing for the Parliamentarians. Threading on the line of Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi Government, Centre is now planning to increase salary, pension of MPs.

Sources say that if proposal in this regard will be approved by the Finance Ministry, Parliamentarians' salary and allowances will be doubled soon.

Now MPs to get Rs 2.8 lakh/month?

According to Indian Express report, Modi Government has proposed increasing the monthly salary of an MP from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Apart from this, Centre has also made proposal to increase constituency allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000 and secretarial assistance plus office allowance from Rs 45,000 to Rs 90,000.

Report also says that there will be increase in basic pension too. It will be raised from Rs 20,000 to Rs 35,000.

Seniority will also be rewarded, I.e those Parliamentarians who have served for more than 5 years will get an additional Rs 2,000 for every year.

Presently, sources say that ball is in the Finance Ministry's court. If it will allocate required amount for the increment, then Parliament will amend Salary, Allowance and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill which will pave the way for the increment.

When asked about the move, a top government official was quoted as saying, "The ministry is expected to accept the proposals".
