The arrest of Indian Mujahideen co-founder, Abdul Subhan was a prized catch for the security agencies. The man wanted for a series of blasts that rocked the country was nabbed recently in a dare-devil operation by the Delhi police.

Amidst claims that there was no exchange of fire that took place before Subhan was arrested, the Delhi police have clarified the same in its chargesheet.

Subhan was arrested from Ghazipur in East Delhi on January 20. The police had inputs about his presence and had later spotted him in a car. When the cops tried intercepting the car, the driver sped away. This led to a chase and finally, the police managed to block the car at the Khoda Colony. While one party blocked Subhan's car from the front the other did so from the rear.

The Delhi police first signalled to Subhan to surrender. Subhan, however, got out of the car and began running. While the police were chasing him, he opened fire on the party and in the bargain, DCP Pramod Singh Kushwah was hit. He was however saved thanks to the bulletproof vest that he was wearing. The police then fired back in self-defence and by around 8.15 pm on January 20, he was cornered.

The chargesheet states that another accused, Mohammad Aziz managed to escape. He too had opened fire and a bullet hit Amul Tyagi an inspector. He too was saved thanks to the bulletproof jacket that he was wearing.
