According to sources, Greg Taylor is likely to be appointed as president and CEO of the company. Taylor has more than 40 years of experience in the sector and has held various senior management roles at United Airlines and US Airways.

Ghosh has stepped down as Whole Time Director of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, effective from April 26 while his resignation as President would come into effect from July 31.

Welcoming Taylor, Bhatia said his enormous and varied experience and understanding of the complexities of the airline industry would be invaluable to the airline's future plans.

The development comes amid the airline embarking on ambitious expansion plans and its aircraft facing technical issues with engines.

A seasoned pilot, Ghosh was appointed President of IndiGo in 2008, four years after the inception of the airline. Under him, it became the largest domestic carrier and now accounts for roughly 40 per cent of the market.

IndiGo, which has a fleet of 160 aircraft, is the country's largest airline with a market share of nearly 40 per cent. It operates around 1,000 flights daily.
