'ACB pressurised me to testify against Yeddyurappa,' says KAS officer
The Anti Corruption Bureau has registered two cases against B S Yeddyurappa for allegedly denotifying land worth Rs 3,800 crore.
A KAS officer accused alongside B S Yeddyurappa in a Rs 3,800 crore land denotification case has alleged that he was forced to give false statements. Basavarajendra, a KAS official who has been named accused by the Anti Corruption Bureau has alleged that he was threatened to testify against B S Yeddyurappa by the investigating officials.
The bureaucrat's statement has come as a twist in the tale. In a letter addressed to the Governor of Karnataka, Vaju Bhai Vala, the official has accused Anti Corruption Bureau officers Balaraj and J K Anthony of pressurising him to give a statement against then Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

In the letter, he had alleged that he was called multiple times to appear before the ACB officials and he finally did so on August 10, 2017.
"Shri J K Anthony John stated that either I should agree for the statement dictated by Shri Balaraj, DySP, ACB making aspersions against the then Chief Minister or I should become an accused (SIC)," the letter reads. Basavarajendra was working with the Bengaluru Development Authority as its special land acquisition officer during the time of the alleged denotification.
"The said Shri Balaraj also stated that I am due for promotion to IAS, I should agree for the dictates or else I would be made accused," he added in the letter. The official claimed that the ACB wanted him to testify that 'Yeddyurappa had passed illegal orders of denotification and caused loss of about Rs 2,000 crore to the government and consequential gain for himself'.
"Since I refused to heed to the illegal demands made by them, now I have come to know on enquiry that I have been arrayed as Accused No.2 in respect of Crime No. 34/2017 registered by ACB (SIC)," he claims in the letter.
The letter has turned into ammo for the BJP that has been crying political vendetta. The BJP has now accused the Congress government in Karnataka of misusing the ACB for political vengeance.
