New Delhi, Nov 25: Supporters of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) demonstrated on Wednesday in front of the residence of O.P. Sharma, a BJP member of the Delhi assembly, demanding punitive action against him for the "derogatory" remarks he allegedly made against Alka Lamba, the ruling party legislator.

Delhi assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel on Tuesday suspended Sharma from the house until Thursday while AAP lawmakers demanded he should be barred from the entire winter session which ends on November 28.

Sharma made the comments in question during a discussion in the assembly on homeless people and night shelters in the city.

"He should face much more severe punishment. Just two-day suspension is not enough for him," said a demonstrator.

Another AAP supporter said: "He has repeatedly said derogatory things against Alka Lamba. This is unacceptable. How can he say such things about a women and that too in Delhi assembly?"

During the discussion, opposition leader Vijender Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata party accused the AAP government of not being serious about the deaths of the homeless people as the winter was setting in.

Lamba objected to Gupta's remark, saying a large number of homeless people have been dying because of drug abuse, not cold. It was then that Sharma allegedly made the remarks in question against Lamba.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday tweeted his "shock" over Sharma's remarks.

"Am shocked at language used by O.P. Sharma, BJP MLA, against a lady MLA. 2 days back also, he abused a lady MLA. Hope BJP will act against him," said his tweet.
