AAP Govt hikes water tariff by 10 pc

The new rates will become effective from next month. This comes days after AAP government had announced free 20,000 litres of water per month to every household.

The Delhi Jal Board is being headed by deputy CM Manish Sisodia. Providing free water has been AAP's major poll agenda in Delhi, after coming to power.

Keeping in line with promises made by AAP during election campaign, the newly-elected Delhi government also announced the power tariffs in the national capital will be slashed by 50 per cent for consumption up to 400 units per month.

The rates came into effect from March 1, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had announced after a cabinet meeting.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, in February, met Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Shashi Kant Sharma and discussed the status of scrutiny of finances of the private power distribution companies by the auditor which was ordered by the AAP government during its first stint.

Last year, in the 115th Board meeting of the DJB, annual budget (interim) of Rs 3,928.40 crore was passed by DJB for the financial year 2014-2015.
