Like it or not! Aadhar to be linked to matrimonial accounts
New Delhi, July 7: In an order to check increasing cases of fraudulence on Matrimonial sites, the government has decided to make Aadhar number mandatory for registering in matrimonial sites.
This step comes in the wake of increasing number of complaints regarding fake profiles of men registering on the site and then duping women. The Aadhar number could be used to track down fraudsters and nail them.
The Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has called for a meeting of various matrimonial sites and other stakeholders to step up measures meant for the safety of the users.
The organization seeks for "robust, scalable, multi-tenant architecture for preventing the exploitation of young women" on such sites. Last November Maneka Gandhi had also called for making Aadhar mandatory for registering on these sites. In fact, she was the first to raise this issue after she received relentless complaints on fraudulence.
Presenting a blueprint, DeitY has recommended that matrimonial sites should capture the Aadhar number of the prospective groom and provide facilities to filter cases based on the number.
However, matrimonial agencies are apprehensive of the move and say that they still cannot stop people from registering themselves without the Aadhar card number as many of them are not comfortable sharing it.
