A lakh child porn videos from India, SC asks CBI to setup dedicated unit

Expressing shock at over one lakh child pornography videos available on the internet from India, the Supreme Court has asked the CBI to setup a dedicated unit to look into the matter.

Internationally, child abuse and exploitation is a grave problem and probably one of the most heinous types of child sexual abuse.

In India, child Pornography has been exclusively dealt with under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2008. Punishment for the first conviction is imprisonment for a maximum of five years and fine of ten lakh rupees and in the event of subsequent conviction with Imprisonment of seven years and fine of ten lakh rupees.

An India Today report states that Kerala tops the list in uploading such content while Haryana leads in viewing it, on mobile.

The report furher says that children in rural areas and from underprivileged backgrounds are soft targets but a large number of school students in urban areas are also vulnerable.
