New Delhi, March 14: People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said there is no regret in the Jammu and Kashmir government over the release of Masrat alam, the Kashmiri separatist.

Speaking on the second day of the two-day India Today Conclave here, Mufti said her party had done no wrong in releasing Alam and had just upheld a Supreme Court order. She said there is a tendency to subvert the country's constitution when it comes to Kashmir.

No regret over Alam's release: Mehbooba

A massive controversy broke out after Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed decided to release Alam soon after taking oath as the head of a PDP-BJP government in the state. The BJP faced a flak over Sayeed's action at the Centre with the opposition parties questioning its nationalist stand.

Mehbooba Mufti also warned at the conclave that if a 2010-like violence is repeated in the Valley, there will be hundreds of Masrat Alams in Kashmir. Over 120 Kashmiris, mostly youth, were killed in various incidents of stone-pelting in 2010.

Mufti said the arrangements are in place for reconciliation and if that target is not achieved, they might have to pack their bags.
