9 killed, 26 injured in bus accident in Assam
According to sources, a speeding bus overturned and fell into a roadside ditch. The bus driver lost his control. The accident occurred in the wee hours of Sunday. While some reports said that the accident took place at 1:30 am, others claimed that it occurred around 4 am.
Eight persons, including the bus driver, died on the spot, while a woman succumbed to her wounds in hospital, he said. The injured passengers were admitted to hospital. Five critically injured persons were referred to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital.
The bus was travelling from Lakhimpur to Guwahati so that they could board a train this morning for their onward journey to Delhi. Total 37 people were in the bus.
Eighteen of the injured were admitted to a hospital, while the rest were released after preliminary treatment. Police said the condition of some of the injured was serious.
Nagaon Superintendent of Police said, "Among the nine dead, five are men and four are women."
