The MSRTC will go on strike starting today as their demands regarding the 7th Pay Commission were not addressed. The statewide strike called by six unions from the midnight of October 16 will go on after there was no solution despite a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday.

7th Pay Commission: MSRTC strike begins in Maharashtra, Diwali to be hit

This is now set to hit the Diwali 2017 operations which would affect lakhs of commuters in the state.

Massive crowds are already languishing at state transport (ST) stands across regions, with people hoping to travel to their hometowns and villages for Diwali disappointed by the timing of this protest.

Meanwhile, MSRTC workers' unions have stood firm over their stand of demanding that the 7th Pay Commission be implemented, salaries be given according to designation, and more.

Hanumant Tatte, state general secretary of the MSRTC Workers Union, told Pune Mirror, "We had a detailed discussion with Fadnavis and state transport minister Diwakar Raote over our demands, but no concrete assurances were given to us about the required increase in our salaries. So, we will stay firm about our decision to go on an indefinite strike across Maharashtra from midnight on Monday onwards. The effects of the agitation will manifest from Tuesday morning, as we are confident that the maximum number of MSRTC workers will be participating in this strike."
