5 major cities on terror radar: Intelligence Bureau issues alert
New Delhi, Mar 7: The Intelligence Bureau has sounded a terror alert for five cities which include, Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Lucknow and Chandigarh.
The alert sounded by the intelligence bureau directs the police of these cities to stay on high alert.
An Intelligence Bureau official informed OneIndia that there are inputs to suggest that some groups may try and attack these cities and the information is concrete in nature.
There is already a high alert in Gujarat after intelligence inputs suggested that ten terrorists from Pakistan had slipped in. The alert is being issued in the event of the Mahashivratri celebrations that are on in the country today.
Terrorist groups may try and target crowded areas in these cities, the Intelligence Bureau also warns.
Earlier during the day, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has called for a security meeting The Home Minister has called for a meeting with top security officials to assess the situation.
The home minister wants to take stock of the situation and also discuss the preparedness of the forces in the wake of this very actionable intelligence being shared from Pakistan.
The home minister would be briefed about the measures taken by the security forces in the wake of this threat.
Following the alert the national security guards arrived in Gujarat to assess the situation. Security was also heightened following inputs that suggested that attacks may target the Maha Shivaratri celebrations.
Raids and combing operations were carried out. Security at all important locations in Gujarat was stepped up.
