2G case: HC grants additional time to Kanimozhi, Raja to reply to CBI's appeal against aquittal

The Delhi High Court on Friday granted additional time to former union telecom minister A Raja, DMK leader Kanimozhi and others to file their reply to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)'s appeal against their acquittal in 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

The apex court has fixed the next date of hearing for October 9.

A The special court on December 21, 2017 had acquitted all accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case. While announcing the judgement, special judge O.P. Saini said the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate had failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the charges against 33 persons named in the case.

The 2G spectrum case was an alleged scam by the politicians and government officials under the United Progressive Alliance (Congress) coalition government.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Dec 21, 2017 declared no evidence to prosecute the accused and acquitted all accused personnels. The Union Government of that time was accused of undercharging mobile telephone companies for frequency allocation licenses, which they used to create 2G spectrum subscriptions for cell phones.
