24 girls rescued from Deoria shelter home, director arrested
Varanasi, Aug 7: Uttar Pradesh Police arrested director of shelter home in Deoria and her husband after the shelter home's license was revoked following an inspection by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Police also arrested two persons, including the home's director Girija Tripathi and her husband Mohan Tripathi.
"The allegations are false and I am being framed," news agency ANI quoted Girija Tripathi as saying.
Twenty-four minor girls were rescued from the shelter home on August 5 and search for other 15 girls is underway.
Superintendent of Police Rohan P Kanay that the matter came to light after one of the girls escaped from the shelter home, came to us and said they are treated like servants. She also said that cars come to pick girls above 15 years old and the girls come crying the next day.
"Twenty-four girls were rescued yesterday from the shelter home at station road in the name of Ma Vindhyawasini Mahila Prakishan Evam Samaj Sewa Sansthan, which has 42 inmates. Eighteen inmates are still missing. We have sealed it," said Kanay.
