2012 Maruti factory violence case: 31 convicted, 117 acquitted
The quantum of punishment will be announced on March 17.
A Gurgaon court has convicted 31 persons for the violence at India's largest auto manufacturer Maruti's factory in Manesar in which a manager was set on fire in a conference room on July 18, 2012. After four years of trial, the court has acquitted 117 persons. The quantum of punishment will be announced on March 17.
On July 18, 2002, an argument broke out between the management and workers, which soon got out of hand, with the workers allegedly setting fire to the floors. Avanish Kumar Dev, a senior manager died in the fire, and several others were injured. About 147 workers were arrested and charged with rioting, murder, unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
While most of the workers got bail, 11 of them were still in jail.
