West Bengal polls: Most dangerous constituencies in 3rd and 4th phase

New Delhi, April 19: West Bengal that polls in the third and fourth phases will witness a total of 338 candidates who are in the age group of 51 and 80 years. The younger candidates too are high in number according to this report by the Association For Democratic Reforms.

In addition to this there are a total of five constituencies in both these phases which have been declared as red alert constituencies. A red alert constituency is one where there are 3 or more candidates who have declared pending criminal cases against them. The vigil is normally higher in such constituencies are they are prone to violence.

The most dangerous constituencies in Phase 3 and 4:

In phase 3 the two red alert constituencies are Gola and Bharatpur. Here 3 or more candidates with declared criminal cases. In phase 4 there are 3 constituencies which have declared as red alert constituencies. They are Bhatpara, Udaynarayanpur and Madhyamgram.

In Phase 3 out of all the 418 candidates, 80 (19%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. 65 (16%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to rape, murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, theft, crimes against women etc.

In phase 4 out of all the 345 candidates, 48 (14%) candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. 42 (12%) candidates have declared serious criminal cases including cases related to murder, attempt to murder, theft, crimes against women etc.

Age and gender details:

In phase 3 224 (54%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 193 (46%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years. Only 1 candidate has disclosed to be older than 80 years of age.

Gender details of candidates: 33 (8%) women candidates are contesting in Phase 3 of the West Bengal assembly election this year.

In phase 4 200 (58%) candidates have declared their age to be between 25 and 50 years while 145 (42%) candidates have declared their age to be between 51 and 80 years.

Gender details of candidates: 39 (11%) women candidates are contesting in Phase 4 of the West Bengal assembly election this year.
