Kohima, May 31: The women of Nagaland are known for their long, straight, silky and dark tresses. In fact, most women across the Northeast region have been blessed with great hair quality. Believe us, it is all natural, no artificial agent involved.

After nurturing them for years, women in Nagaland are now donating their hair for cancer patients. The hair donated by the Good Samaritans will be used to turn into wigs for cancer patients who have gone bald because of chemotherapy. The initiative is meant for economically weaker section of cancer patients who can't afford to buy expensive wigs.

Recently, as a part of "Hair for Hope India", at least 30 people donated their hair at a special charitable event for cancer patients hosted at the Lighthouse Church in Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland, stated a report by ANI.

The brain behind the charitable event is Amen Jamir, who came up with the idea after she lost her mother to cancer, and thus wanted to work for patients suffering from the malignant disease.

"The Hair for Hope page which I came across on Facebook a few years ago was the right place to volunteer," Jamir told ANI. She herself has donated her hair twice for the cause.

The organisers of the donation event are all set to send the hair to Hair for Hope in Bangalore, Karnataka for processing. Hair for Hope is a charity event where people cut/shave their hair to turn them into wigs for cancer patients in different parts of the country and abroad.

Ahimsa Zhimomi, president and founder of a cancer support group, who herself is a cancer survivor, said that such initiatives bring great hope for patients. At the end of the hair donation camp, all the donors were felicitated with a certificate from Hair for Hope, India.

"The event also saw the launching of Protect your Mom, Asia Campaign, an initiative for breast cancer self-exam awareness under the same banner," reported ANI.

Next time you want to do something for cancer patients, join the "Hair for Hope" movement and bring joy into the lives of cancer patients.
