Why are Bengal media & opposition silent on Belur Math blasts?
A couple of explosions took place in Belur Math in Howrah in West Bengal on Friday evening. The explosions that occurred 15 minutes before the evening prayers smashed the window panes in the hall opposite to the main temple.
Oneindia reported that the explosions were low-intensity ones and not firecrackers as was reported by the media. [Belur Math blasts: What was the intention?]
The police were investigating all angles into the blasts.
No coverage on local news channels?
But it was surprising to see that none of the major channels in Bengal bothered to give the episode much coverage. Even the main newspapers of the state did not give it any in-depth coverage.
On Saturday, biggest Bengali daily Anandabazaar Patrika carried a story under the headline "Belur Mathe Jora Bisforone Atonko" (Twin blasts create panic at Belur Mutt) while another major daily Ei Samay carried an even insignificant two-column story in Page 3 under the headline "Belur Math Prangone Potka Fatay Atonko" (Firecrackers go off at Belur Mutt campus, sparks panic).
The Telegraph called the explosions "small" and emphasised on the fact that they could have been firecrackers.
Local
media
generally
over-reports
these
incidents
but
not
in
this
case.
Why?
Why
the
local
media
giving
so
less
attention
to
this
incident?
Generally,
the
local

even
overstretching

far.
But
the
Bengal
media
showed
a
contradictory
tendency.
Even the recent case of nun rape in Ranaghat in the state led to a big uproar with questions raised on the security of a minority community in the state.
The communal tension in Canning in South 24-Parganas 2 years ago was also under-reported. Why?
Why was there no similar question being asked after the Belur Math explosion? Is it just a casual treatment of the news since civic polls are due in the state in some days or is there a serious equation in the case which the local media is desperately trying to ignore?
It looks the Bengali thinktank is in a self-destructive mode of denial
Why the anti-establishment media and opposition remained silent?
Besides the anti-establishment media, even the state opposition, which is struggling to find some ground under its feet, is silent on the issue.
Why was a Trinamool MP proactive about the incident on Twitter when there was not much noise in media?
Even an MP of the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state was seen playing the incident down on Twitter. Why was he proactive in doing that when there was hardly any media noise over the issue?

In India, every bomb looks 'harmless' in the beginning
When a series of bombs exploded in Patna during a rally of Nerendra Modi in October 2013, it was first said they were of no threat. Even the bombs that were recovered from Patna a few days ago were believed to be 'harmless' at first. [Patna bombs meant to target massive gathering]
A couple of years ago, there was a case of communal tension in a place in South 24-Parganas of West Bengal which the local media of Bengal had also ignored for some unknown reasons. Does the Belur Mutt blasts case also have a similar dimension?
The silence is defeaning.
