Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal gets slapped again. The instances of repeated slaps aren't good. It is bound to leave a bad impact on Kejriwal's family and children. But the series of attacks on Kejriwal has certainly given a befitting conclusion to his style of politics. You can not take people's sentiments for granted.

Kejriwal attacked in Delhi! Something has gone wrong for sure

It still to be known whether Kejriwal was attacked by agents sent by his opponents or disgruntled supporters of his own party but that the extreme form of attacks occurred in Delhi itself where the man had emerged as an icon a few months ago suggests that something has gone wrong. What is it?

Kejriwal's focus shifted too soon and ignored his local constituency

The AAP is perhaps facing the consequences of the sudden shift in its political style over the last few months. The party had begun its show by taking into confidence the political society. Its leadership went on raising the bar of expectation for the representatives of this society. The party's oversimplified prescription to get rid of the nation's (rather Delhi's) woes made this society hopeful about a colouful future. Kejriwal's party went on provoking the thought process of this class as it prepared for the assembly elections in Delhi last December.

Kejriwal went closer to the civil society after the Delhi poll results were out

But the situation underwent a change after the poll results came out on December 8. The AAP failed to get a majority of its own and neither did the BJP or Congress. The newly formed party began to play out a new politics after the election results were out. Kejriwal organised an SMS polling to gather the public opinion on whether he should form a government in Delhi with the support of the Congress.

The quest to get a moral certification was to get closer to the civil society for the man knew that this is the constituency he will be needing more in his future ventures, including the national election. And while this was a noble effort to win the heart of the civil society, the act of abruptly quitting power after just 49 days was a cruel act of betraying the political society which had helped him to come to power and deliver on high promises.

Politics of comfort has begun to backfire

Kejriwal's choice of executing his political plans from a zone of comfort has started backfiring. He had used up all the opportunities to promote his party and his personal political ambitions with the media's help. But when he started entering the compelxities of politics and failed to manage his plans, he began targetting the media. The same happened in Delhi where he shifted his constituency comfortably from the political society to the civil society for he needed the middle-class more to make an appeal nationally. But it left the humble Delhiites who had banked on him in a state of despair. No doubt, it has started to show on the streets of Delhi now.

Slaps don't make Kejriwal a loser

However, the slaps don't make Kejriwal a loser. His popularity graph, which began to fall after his quitting power in Delhi, is certain to see a boost now for the pair of slaps which he has received so far has revived a wave of sympathy for him. With the Lok Sabha election already underway, these two incidents will be fresh in his supporters' mind and can have a positive impact in the ballot box.

But as far as his own brand of politics is concerned, Kejriwal has proved that he is basically an opportunist who has little concern for the words that he puts before his supporters.
