According to an estimate, nearly 300 million tonnes of plastic is produced in the world which is equivalent to the weight of the entire human population on the globe. It is a huge amount and the railway authorities have taken a novel step to reduce plastic pollution and recycle the waste in its various railway stations.
Once the plastic bottles will get crushed it will come out as fine pieces which will be again sold as scrap to be reused to make bags and t-shirts.
"The aim to install these machines is to protect the environment. If any passenger wants to throw the plastic water bottle they can put into this machine, which will crush the water bottle," chief public relations officer of South Central Railways, Uma Shankar told ANI.
The authorities at the railway stations also want to discourage passengers from using plastic. The plastic bottle crushers have been installed in Kachiguda, Secunderabad, Nizamabad and Vijayawada railway stations.
These crusher machines are of the size of a refrigerator and have the capacity to crush around 5,000 bottles per day, stated ANI.
So, next time if you visit any of these railway stations, don't forget to dispose of your used plastic bottles in the crushers and help save the environment in your own way.
