Congress president Sonia Gandhi
Congress president Sonia Gandhi seems to be losing her grip within the party. Post Lok Sabha debacle, her image, decision making authority and credibility all are being questioned both by the opponents and the supporters. She is no more considered as saviour by the party cadre and the glory of political morality which she has been wearing for long time has also been hit.

Sonia's glare failed to silence Congress MP in Lok Sabha

The authority of Congress president took a toll when Congress MP from West Bengal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury did not pay any heed to her glares in Lok Sabha on Monday. Congress chief was actually showing disapproving glares to Chowdhury who was not allowing Labour Minister Narendra Tomar to respond to the question related to hunger deaths of tea estate workers in Bengal.

According to reports, when Labour Minister got up to speak on the issue, Chowdhury started shouting and did not let the Minister to answer. Gandhi turned to glare at the member but the disapproval was lost on Chowdhury.

Not only this, a few days back senior party leader from Punjab Jagmeet Singh Brar created flutter saying that Sonia Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi should take a break in the wake of the party's worst-ever debacle in Lok Sabha polls.

"Poll debacle is a collective responsibility. Everybody has to take responsibility. What I am saying is that if a person has remained party President for so many years, there is no harm if he or she takes a cool off period for two years," Brar said. Though, Brar has been issued a showcause notice but his statement actually showed that the party cadre is losing confidence on its president.

National Herald case dents Sonia's image

Sonia Gandhi is facing criticism ever since her name along with several other Congress leaders crop up in the National Herald case. Recently, the I-T department also served a notice to Sonia Gandhi in the case, but no voice of protest has been heard from the party. She has been left to defend herself.

Natwar bomb punctured halo around Sonia

What Natwar Singh has disclosed, many others have earlier said that Sonia Gandhi is no goddess of sacrifice. As per Natwar's revelations, the reason for Sonia declining the prime ministership in 2004 was not her 'inner voice' but Rahul Gandhi who had given her a 24 hour deadline. The reason being that Rahul feared for her life, since he had witnessed the assassination of both his grandmother and father.

Recently, a Congress leader said Sonia and Rahul Gandhi should take a break.

Natwar's claims also corroborated what Sanjay Baru has said earlier, that Manmohan Singh Government was remote controlled by Sonia and that all Government files were carried to her for her approval.

Passing on baton to Rahul cost Sonia dearly

Until now, the Congress workers and senior party leaders pinned their hopes on 'saviour' Sonia to save the party, like she did in 1997. Undoubtedly, Sonia has proved her leadership, she has revived the party and helped it stand in time of crisis.

But her decision to carry forward her legacy to son Rahul didn't go down well. Whatever be the reasons, illness or love for her son, her gradually passing on the baton to Rahul Gandhi proved to be damp squib. Rahul neither able to connect with the party workers nor with common people. As a result, Congress suffered humiliating defeat in recently concluded Lok Sabha poll.
