As Pakistan sponsored terrorists continue to blast mobile towers in Jammu and Kashmir, more reasons for such acts are coming to light. While there is an attempt to disable all mobile communication in the state ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, the other aspect that has come to light is the frustration of these militants after the police busted their communication method with the ISI.

The ISI has spent Rs 25 crore on this operation and had provided militants with a radio device. These radio devices were planted on the mobile towers in Sopore district. This helped these terrorists posing as freedom fighters communicate with their handles in Pakistan.

Why militants targetting towers in J&K

Frustration builds for Kashmir militants:

Intelligence Bureau officials tell OneIndia that there is clear frustration among these militants whose method of communication has been busted. Last year the ISI sent in radio devices worth Rs 25 crore to Jammu and Kashmir. The militants planted these devices on the mobile towers and were using the same to communicate with their handlers across the border.

The police had found that such devices were being used. It was first discovered in Sopore district. The police found that radio devices and other gadgets meant to communicate were installed on the "Indian Installed," mobile towers in Sopore. On discovering these gadgets, the police took them down which led to a great deal of anger among the militants. This also led them to calling for a ban on all mobile communication in Sopore and other areas.

Communication blocked:

The militants want to ensure there is no form of communication available in Jammu and Kashmir. It is clear that these militants are venting out their frustration by blasting out mobile towers. In addition to this they have also threatened people with mobile recharge shops to either close down or face dire consequences.

So far the militants have been successful in their designs and many have shut shop out of fear.

While the general public of the state has been facing difficulties due to militant action, the terrorists too have not been able to communicate with their handlers. The state police along with the Intelligence Bureau have launched a massive drive across the state to detect such radio devices that have been planted on the mobile towers.

None claim responsibility:

Last week when the militants had carried out attacks on mobile towers in Sopore, they had pasted posters with the name of the Lashkar-e-Islam. However police investigations found that it was the handiwork of the Hizbul Mujahideen a dreaded terror outfit in Kashmir.

The Hizbul Mujahideen however did not come forward and claim responsibility as they were aware that blocking communication would cause a great deal of hardship for the locals. Had they claimed responsibility their local support would have fallen a great deal and this they were not prepared to face. Hence they blamed the Lashkar-e-Islam, an outfit that is defunct since March 2015.
This group which has no interest in Kashmir used to operate in the Khyber area of Pakistan before all its members joined the Tehrik-e-Taliban in March 2015.

BSNL towers targeted:

After targeting mobile towers of private telecom companies, terrorists also blasted a mobile tower of the BSNL at Habbakadal, Srinagar on Monday. This led to five of the BSNL's franchisees shutting shop out of fear. The militants also went around warning those shop owners who were recharging BSNL connections.

The militants have succeeded in ensuring that services such as Airtel, Aircel and Vodafone have limited their services. With this fresh launch on the BSNL tower, the militants have ensured that 50 per cent of the Valley has been cut off from communication.
