Social media demands justice

Dr Narang's brutal killing for a petty reason drew the attention of netizens on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, demanding justice for his death and punishment to his killers.

His death spread like a wildfire on social media, with many people raising a question on the silence maintained by the media and politicians.

A Facebook page titled "Justice for Dr.PANKAJ Narang" was created by some netizens to demand justice for him.

Why media and politicians chose to remain silent?

Unlike in previous cases, this particular case was given a muted response by various media houses.

For instance, killing of 52-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq Saifi in Sept 2015, was given prime time and front page coverage by various media channels and newspapers.

Akhlaq was killed by a mob in Bisara village near Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, on the suspicion of consuming beef. FIR was registered against ten people, who were involved in the killing.

Even, politicians were quick to make a visit to Akhlaq's family members. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, home minister Rajnath Singh were among few politicians who assured justice will be given to the bereaved family members.

Besides, many politicians issued statements on the case and many intellectuals even went on to return their awards and protesting over intolerance in the country.

Then, other case is that of Rohith Vemula, a student of University of Hyderabad, who committed suicide inside his hostel room on Jan 17, 2016, leaving behind a hand-written suicide note.

His suicide sparked outrage across India and it was highly politicised by making it a case of discrimination against Dalits.

His death was not only highly politicised but was also hyped by the media of not only this country, but it also grabbed international headlines.

People take part in a candle march against the heinous killing of dental surgeon Pankaj Narang at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Sunday.

Has media shown its biased nature in covering Dr Narang's case?

Yes, media did tried its best not to give much coverage to Dr Narang's killing, as compared to other such previous cases.

Although the deceased won't come back to life, but the media could have played a responsible role by giving this issue an unbiased coverage.

Similarly, politicians could have done their bit by meeting the family members of the deceased by ensuring them that they will get justice, but they chose to ignore it or downplay it, as his death will not affect their vote-bank, on which they bank upon, to gain political mileage.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay on Sunday offered job to the widow of Dr Narang, in a municipal hospital.

Justice should be given to all irrespective of their religion

Any killing or injustice, whether it takes place in any religion or caste, should be equally treated in front of the judiciary, police, politicians and media.
