Karnataka: Maddur Vidhansabha Constituency

Maddur is a town in Mandya district. It lies on the banks of the river Shimsha. It is 82 kilometers away from state capital Bangalore and 60 kilometers away from erstwhile capital Mysore. Asia's biggest tender coconut Market is located in Maddur.

Maddur has many famous temple such as Vidyanatheswara Temple, Sri UgraNarasimha Swamy Temple, Sri Varadaraja Swamy Temple, Pattadlama Temple, Hole Anjaneya Swami Temple, Madduramma Temple and Beereswara swami Temple.

Maddur also has a well-known bird sanctuary - Kokkarebellur. The uniqueness in Kokkarebellur is the long established bonding between the spot-billed pelicans and the villagers who have adopted this bird as their heritage, since they consider the birds as harbingers of good luck and prosperity to the village. The benefits derived by the villagers from these birds are basically in the form of phosphorus and potassium rich manure obtained from the bird droppings.

Maddur is also known for its signature dish Maddur Vade.

D.C.Thammanna of JDS is the current MLA and he defeated Madhu G.Madegowda of Congress by 31,958 votes.
